Welcome to my blog! I am a full time professional photographer specialising in natural, creative wedding photography and a range of different types of portrait photography including maternity, new born babies, families and pets.

I love my work as, for me, a photograph is a split second in time, which is shaped by the emotions of a moment. Every photograph tells a story and particular images can conjour up strong and sometimes powerful memories. I count myself lucky to really love what I do as I have a passion for taking photographs and finding out what makes people tick.

I am based near Bristol and Bath in the Chew Valley. For weddings, I work mainly in the Bristol, Bath, Somerset and Gloucestershire areas and photograph weddings regularly at some of the best venues in the region including: Hunstrete House, Thornbury Castle, Ston Easton Park, Maunsel House, Kingscote Barn, The Park, The Matara Centre and Guyers House. I am happy to travel to other parts of the country and abroad. To find out more about my wedding photography please click here. For portraits I work either in clients' homes, on location or from my studio in the Chew Valley and aim to offer a relaxed, fun and personal experience, particularly as many of my clients have known me since photographing their wedding and come back to me for their family photographs. Bhavani and James' Pre- Wedding Shoot in Bristol

The last week has been so busy with shoots and weddings so I will do my best to catch up with my blog over the next few days!

On Friday I headed into town to meet up with Bhavani and James whose wedding is in a few weeks’ time. They had rushed over from London to meet up with me for a couple of hours before heading back to Bhavani’s parents’ house for a slap up meal for her birthday – so it was a real priviledge to spend a bit of Bhavani’s special day with them.

It was a pretty hot afternoon so we had a drink inside the Arnolfini Gallery (a favourite haunt of mine!) and then had a wander around the waterfront area to do their pre-wedding shoot. Bristol is such a vibrant place to shoot – particularly the old dock area along from the SS Great Britain with all the old buildings and preserved railway lines (unlike Bhavani, James didn’t know the city so I had to reassure him there wouldn’t be any trains coming along!).

We stopped at several places around the floating harbour and took some really lovely photographs of them. I think, like most people, they had had a few reservations about having their photographs taken, but then really relaxed into it and enjoyed themselves!

Laura and James' Wedding in Wiltshire

I think Saturday has to have been one of the most perfect days ever for a wedding! It was already pretty hot by the time I arrived at Laura’s parents’ house in their village in Wiltshire to take some shots of the final preparations and Laura and her bridesmaids Louise and Steph. Finishing touches were being made to the marquee and it looked lovely – set right beside a fabulous lawn with all the early summer plants out in full bloom.

From there I headed over to the church (which was blissfully cool!) to meet up with James, his best man and ushers. Guests arrived by bus and there was a general air of excitement in the churchyard with lots of well wishers waiting to see the bride arrive. I photographed Laura’s cousin Jo’s wedding last summer so it was lovely to see some of the family again!

Photographs were not permitted in church so I sat back and enjoyed the service and when Laura and James came out of church caught some lovely images of guests congratulating them. We then headed back to Laura’s parents’ house and I took some shots of them in the grounds before their guests arrived for drinks and canapes.

Here are some of my favourite images from their day:

Andy and Chris' Civil Partnership at Priston Mill

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of photographing Andy and Chris’ civil partnership at Priston Mill near Bath. When I arrived at the mill, their wedding planner Jane was hard at work putting the finishing touches to the room which already looked fantastic and had lots of really personal touches including local ciders and ales as favors for guests and sticks of rock decorated in their theme colours.

Andy and Chris had decided to arrive in real style so there were a few guests keeping their eyes peeled outside for them despite the cold weather. Chris arrived first in a Rolls Royce shortly followed by Andy in a Bentley – both having enjoyed champagne en route and looking forward to the day ahead.

Chris’ little niece Georgia looked a delight in her flower girl dress as did Andy and Chris’ sisters Rachel and Siobhan, Emma and Kate who were all wearing gorgeous prom style blue dresses. We also had probably the youngest wedding guest I have ever seen – little 2 day old Mason with mum Emma. She must have been the envy of a lot of the female guests looking so good 2 days after giving birth!

Kate and Emma both read during the ceremony and there weren’t a lot of dry eyes as Andy and Chris said their vows. Looking quite emotional themselves during the ceremony, I think Andy and Chris were pleased to be handed a drink as soon as the ceremony ended and they headed out to the garden with their guests as the sun put in an appearance.

Andy and Chris had arranged for Luisa, a fantastic caricaturist to wander around and sketch guests during the drinks reception, so there were some amusing moments as guests were given their cartoon selves! It was soon time for the meal and guests made their way inside for the wedding breakfast and speeches.

After the meal, there was plenty of time for fun in the playground behind the mill which seemed to appeal to some of the older guests as well as the children!

Sarah and Sven's Wedding at Kingscote Barn

Last Friday I headed up to the Cotswolds for Sarah and Sven’s wedding. Sarah was getting ready with her sister Laura and her mum when I arrived and everyone was enjoying having their hair and make up done. Even Sarah’s niece Elizabeth was having her nails done and she is only 4 so she put me to shame!

Kingscote is such an idyllic spot in the Spring with the new lambs frolicking around in the field and lots of Springtime flowers. Sven and his little brothers Jonathan and Freddie and his best men Dan and Geoff looked very smart in their navy suits and spent a bit of time with Sven’s Dad Michael and his wife Kirsten who had flown over for the wedding.

After the ceremony, Sarah, Sven and their guests headed out on to the lawn for champagne while a string quartet played some favourite tunes.

I took some lovely images of Sarah and Sven in the grounds using the gorgeous scenery and the old farm buildings before they were called back in to the barn for the wedding breakfast. Sven’s Dad proposed a toast with some traditional Danish schnaps (which I am told is extremely strong!) and then everyone tucked in. Here are some favourite images from their day:

Lucy and Simon's Pre-Wedding Shoot

Last week I caught up with Lucy and Simon who are getting married in nearby Chewton Mendip in a few weeks’ time. The last time I saw Lucy there was quite thick snow on the ground so it was nice to meet up again with the daffodils out and blossom on the trees instead!

We enjoyed a cup of tea and a catch up and then headed off to Simon’s parents’ house where the reception is being held for their pre-wedding shoot. They are pretty lucky really as the garden was landscaped several years ago for Simon’s sister’s wedding and you couldn’t ask for a nicer garden to have a wedding reception in. I am really looking forward to the wedding and in the meantime, here are a few images from their session:

Wedding Fayre at the Wheatsheaf in Coombe Hay

For any couples wanting to arrange a wedding with a real emphasis on yummy food, why not pop along to the wedding fayre at the Wheatsheaf in Coombe Hay, just outside Bath tomorrow. A favourite of mine, the Wheatsheaf is a great venue for food and wine lovers as it has won a number of awards and is also in a stunning country setting yet close to Bath.

Andrew & Lesley's Wedding at Thornbury Castle

The week before Easter, I photographed Andrew and Lesley’s wedding at Thornbury Castle – a lovely setting for a Spring wedding. Andrew and Lesley have been such a nice couple to get to know. They have known each other for many years and even went to school together so it was a particularly special ocassion for them to tie the knot surrounded by friends and family.

The ceremony was held in the Tudor Hall which I have never seen looking quite so fantastic – decorated in a medieval style with hundreds of candles. Andrew and Lesley both looked delighted through the whole ceremony and just as we came outside the Hall for champagne, the sun decided to shine and they had some time in the walled garden with their guests.

Medieval musician Dante Ferrara (http://www.danteferrara.co.uk) played a wonderful variety of tunes and several people had their feet tapping! I have not come across a medieval minstrel at a wedding before and it really added to the castle atmosphere – for a minute in the candlelight it did look like we had stepped back in time to the 1600s!

Here are a few images from their day:

Sarah & Sven's Pre-Wedding Shoot

Before Easter, I met up with Sarah and Sven in their lovely village in the Cotswolds to have a catch up, plan the photography for their day and do their pre-wedding shoot. Spring was definately in the air and the daffs and other Spring flowers were trying their hardest to peep through!

Sarah and Sven are really lucky to live in such a gorgeous spot and it was great to get some shots of them in their own village.

Not long till the big day now as they are getting married on Friday so watch this space to see some of their wedding pictures next week!

Here are some of the images from their pre-wedding shoot:

South African Adventures!

I have been lucky enough to have spent the last month on a real adventure travelling across South Africa. I didn’t realise quite how beautiful the country is and it was a real pleasure to take in the fantastic scenery; from the heights of Table Mountain in Cape Town, through the Winelands, along the famous garden route and all the way to the stunning mountain ranges inland and the truly amazing Kruger National Park in the North.

I am in the process of using some of the images from my trip to make a calendar which will go on sale later in the year in aid of a fantastic childrens’ charity which offers accomodation, medical care and community support for South African children, including those orphaned by Aids (http://www.soschildrensvillages.org.uk/sponsor-a-child/africa/south-africa).

In the meantime here are a few images from the trip which I hope you enjoy:

Sarah & Stuart's Wedding at Cadbury House

I have just met up with the lovely Sarah and Stuart, who have just got back from what sounds like an amazing time in the Maldives! Looking very brown and chilled out we had a coffee and a catch up and went through their wedding pictures.

They were married a week ago on Friday at Cadbury House in Congresbury, which is a great venue for a Winter wedding, as its lovely contemporary rooms are really cosy in the Winter and look lovely by candlelight!

Sarah was getting ready upstairs with her bridesmaids as I arrived to take a few pictures of them putting the finishing touches to their hair and make up. Sarah’s dress was a gorgeous strapless gown with beautiful lace detailing.

Downstairs, Stuart and the boys were greeting guests in the bar and Sarah’s Dad had a bit of help to do up his tie!

After a lovely ceremony we headed outside to get the last rays of sun and to take a few pictures in the grounds.

Before it got too cold we headed back inside to warm up and for Sarah and Stuart to have a glass of champagne before sitting down for dinner.
